Valery Gergiyev receives Karayan`s prize
The Mariinsky theatre art director Valery Gergiyev is awarded to Herbert fon Karayan?s prize for 2006 for prominent contribution into music.
The award ceremony is to take place in Baden-Baden on June 12, 2006.
The Prize founders published the declaration, which says that Gergiyev defined new standards of music interpretation concerning works of Italian, German and first of all Russian composers. Money equivalent of the Karayan`s Prize constitutes 50 thousand Euro.
In 2005 this prestigious award was conferred to another Russian musician Eugeny Kisin.
In 2005 Valery Gergiyev received several music prizes, including order of Netherlands Leo and the award of Swedish king "Polar Prize".
Earlier, he received such awards like Philips Excellence in Arts Award, Dmitry Shostakovich`s Prize, "Golden mask", "Golden soffit", State Prize of the Russian Federation (twice).
